We are delighted to announce that we have just won the LABC Building Excellence Award 2015 as the architects of the Best Individual New Home in the North West for 'Deepdene' in Knutsford.
Receiving the award are George Tsiantar, Tom Bedford (Tsiantar Architects) and Simon Kennedy (DS Building Projects)
We were nominated for the award by the Cheshire East Building Control Team who were so impressed with this project:
DEEPDENE - Mereside Road, Mere, Knutsford. (Completed October 2014)
Deepdene reached practical completion on time and within the client’s budget. This was primarily due to the close collaboration and coordination of the whole design team throughout the duration of the project. It was designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind from the offset. Although the finished dwelling appears traditional in its characteristics and sitting seamlessly within its surrounding location, if you just scratch the surface you will instantly see that this is no ordinary construction. The entire shell of the house was constructed using an industry leading Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) product, which not only makes the construction process more efficient in terms of time and cost, but also reduces heating and cooling energy consumption by up to 50%.
The extremely light-weight blocks are simply stacked up using their interlocking technology which reduces the construction process, labour costs and materials. The stacked blocks create the form in which the concrete is poured effectively creating a monolithic structure which reduces air-leakage to an exceptional level. AMVIC ICF achieves U-Values as low as 0.11W/m2K coupled with the thermal mass concrete core and underfloor heating throughout minimises temperature fluctuations by absorbing and storing heat meaning energy consumption is reduced to a minimum. This method of construction not only provides superior levels of insulation, design flexibility and exceptional sound attenuation, the reinforced concrete core generates tremendous strength and stability whilst the high-density polystyrene forms are flame retardant which provides a 3 hour fire rating.
Also, within the newly landscaped rear garden which gradually falls away to Mere Lake, a rainwater harvester and soakaway have been installed to help reduce the burden on the public systems and the amount of surface water entering the lake. All surface water to the rear of the property is collected and directing into this system where it can be stored and later used to water the garden, wash cars etc.

Mrs Houghton, November 2014
'I chose Tsiantar Architects because of their previous designs in the area, and on meeting George thought I could work with him as he grasped what I wanted almost immediately'.
'The project was a dream and gave me no stress as I thought it would!'
'Love my home and everything about it!'
